The Maldives has two distinct seasons driven by the monsoon trade winds. The dry season (iruvai) runs roughly from December to April and brings clear skies, calm seas, and the best underwater visibility — it is also the busiest and most expensive period.
Dry season (December–April)
Temperatures hover around 28–31°C with low humidity. December–January is peak season; February–April offers similar weather at slightly softer prices.
Wet season (May–November)
The southwest monsoon (hulhangu) brings short tropical showers, dramatic skies, and the best chance of seeing manta rays and whale sharks at cleaning stations across South Ari Atoll. Shoulder months (May, October, November) deliver the best value and remain mostly sunny.
When to book each experience
- Honeymoon & photography: January–March for picture-perfect skies.
- Diving & whale-shark snorkelling: May–November in South Ari Atoll.
- Best value: late April or November shoulder windows.
